Discover the Best Draft
Experiences This Fall

As the leaves turn golden and the air carries a hint of crispness, there’s nothing quite like savoring a perfectly poured draft beer. This fall, we’ve handpicked three unique destinations that promise not only exceptional brews but also unforgettable experiences. From a versatile restaurant to an authentic Irish bar and a charming taproom, each loacation offers something special to make your autumn adventures truly memorable.

1. Rolo’s

As the sun sets, Rolo’s undergoes a captivating metamorphosis. What was once a charming bakery and bodega transforms into an expansive cocktail bar, where the sherry-tinged blood orange cobbler reigns supreme. A  roaring wood-fire grill sets the stage, casting the room in a warm, flickering glow that signals the onset of dinner service.

Here, the focus shifts to an impeccable array of drinks, particularly the draft offerings. The wood-fired ambiance imbues a rustic elegance, with globe lights casting a soft glow on the handsome wood floors. It’s an inviting atmosphere that effortlessly turns newcomers into regulars. Under Howell’s guidance, Rolo’s crafts batched cocktails designed to share, ranging from intimate serves for two to three, to lively concoctions for four to six. Choices like the apple cardamom old fashioned, pineapple rum negroni, and spicy mezcal punch add an electrifying edge to the evening.

Highlighted by an accolade from Eater, which lauded Rolo’s as a pinnacle of wood-fired dining, especially for its coveted burger, this Ridgewood gem has rapidly ascended to become one of New York City’s most sought-after destinations. Whether it’s a leisurely morning coffee or the famed burger and a pint in the afternoon, Rolo’s beckons as an essential fall haunt. Share with us your own Rolo’s experience and your preferred menu indulgence!

2. The Irish Exit

The team behind the Dead Rabbit, one of the most influential cocktail bars of the last decade, is taking over what was the Bar in the Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station. Customers can expect cocktails, Irish whiskey, expertly poured Guinness and, of course, Irish coffee. Described as “an all-day space for those on the go,” The Irish Exit  features a 216-seat bar and  provides a variety of drinks, including the Dead Rabbit’s signature Irish coffees, Guinness on tap, Irish spirits, and boilermakers (cocktails made with beer).

The Managing Director of Dead Rabbit, Jack McGarry said this in a post about the launch of The Irish Exit: “Super excited about the upcoming launch of The Irish Exit, the newest contemporary-focused Irish concept in our growing staple of brands at The Dead Rabbit. This concept alongside everything else we’re doing helps us as we seek to challenge paddywhackery and subpar Irish and Irish Pub experiences in America, providing our customers with something relevant, contemporary, and engaging.”

I guess it is not a shock that the team of Dead Rabbit did not fail to impress us with this amazing bar. The food, drinks, atmosphere and service are top notch. Even though it is still a relatively new bar, it is not surprising that The Irish Exit has stolen the hearts of many New Yorkers and draft lovers.

3. Talea Williamsburg Taproom: Where Beer Meets Artistry

In Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, Talea’s brewery and taproom practically shines on its corner, painted white on the bottom floor of an otherwise red-brick building. The interior is bright, too, with tables and benches of pale wood surrounded by picture windows and a smattering of thriving houseplants. Really, it looks more like a café than a brewery—and it opens at 9 a.m., with coffee, tea, and pastries.

On weekdays, people with laptops tend to hang around and work, use the wifi, have an occasional snack, and transition at some point from coffee to beer before heading home or out for the evening. On Sunday mornings there’s an event called Jazz Baby, where a musician works with toddlers to interact with, play, and dance around to jazz music. The brewery boasts plenty of stroller parking, and there are even “stroller specials” on Tuesdays, with discounts on snacks and flights—but only if you’re pushing a wee one around. In the afternoon or evening, however, you’re likely to see groups of twenty- to forty-something women meeting there sharing sips and opinions about what they like best. In fact, according to responses from the brewery’s rewards program, about 70 percent of Talea’s customers are women.

Talea brewed about 1,500 barrels in 2021, 4,300 last year, and is on track to brew as much as 8,000 barrels this year. They opened their second taproom in 2022, in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood, and their plan is to open their third one in the West Village, Manhattan, later this year. Word is spreading, national news outlets have covered their story several times, and their brand is along for the ride. However, the feat that appears to evoke the most pride in cofounders LeAnn Darland and Tara Hankinson is the crowd they see in their taprooms. They share an especially fond memory from the brewery’s early days in 2021: A group of eight young women, apparently in their 20s, were visiting in the afternoon. “There was this woman wearing this tiny strapless top that was covered in white feathers, and heels,” Hankinson says. “I was like, ‘We’ve freakin’ made it!’ That girl thinks it’s cool to come to our place, on a Saturday

With a design that looks like it came out of a dream, a cafe by day and brewery in the afternoon, this is a must visit place for this fall.
